What We Need to Know about the Holy Spirit

Heavenly Father I praise You for sending Your Son to live among us for a short while to be a living example of how to live, for the salvation of the cross and the eternal hope from His resurrection and ascension. I praise You for being a creator who has purpose for every part of His creation. I praise You for Your inspired word for us to get wisdom and for us who live 2000 years after Christ’s time on the earth we have eyewitness accounts of what He said.

Christ told us, “When the Spirit of Truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. For He will not speak on His own authority. But He will speak on whatever He hears, and He will tell you things that are to come. He will glorify Me, for He will receive from Me and will declare it to you. All that the Father has is Mine. Therefore I said that He will take what is Mine and will declare it to you.” So, Holy Spirit I am totally dependent upon hearing You to know what Christ wants me to know. I am totally dependent on You to know and discern what is true and what is not.

Holy Spirit, Paul tells us, “I say then, walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh. These are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things you please. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.” Paul also said, “Walk as children of light—for the fruit of the Spirit is in goodness and righteousness and truth—proving what is pleasing to the Lord.”

Holy Spirit these are meaningful words from Paul but I need to understand just how to walk as a child of light. I need to know how to walk in the Spirit so that I do not give into sinful desires or temptations. I need to learn how to listen and be guided by You. I know Paul told us we must live our lives as living sacrifices if we want to demonstrate our worship of the Lord and know His good and perfect will. So help me to die out to my desires, my personal dreams, my wants, and trust that the Father who created me knows better what I should desire, dream for and want. If he made me with a purpose and a plan then help me to be inspired by You to trust that there is much better things for me than what my limited vision and knowledge can see and know.

Holy Spirit, You speak for Christ to me, and for me to Christ. It is through You that I can enter the throne room and present my petitions before Christ my advocate. Help me to grow in wisdom so that I fully submerse my life into the trust of You leading me to what to say, do and how to live. Help my trust grow to become faith, my faith grow to become hope and belief so that I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
