Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness; come before His presence with singing. Know that the Lord, He is God; it is He who made us, and not we; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise; be thankful to Him, and bless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy endures forever, and His faithfulness to all generations. [Psalms 100]
Holy Spirit, I love as I get older how You bring to my mind the wonder of Your word. How do you give us the testimony of David defeating Goliath and taking the head to Jerusalem. Some historians believe that Golgotha, as Mathew 27:33 tells us, the Place of the Skull, is where Goliath’s head ended up. The irony or symmetry is this: David defeated the enemy of the Lord, upon that place where Christ was crucified, thus defeating Satan and sin by paying the ultimate price for our sins and offering us salvation. It seems fitting when you consider that Christ was of the lineage of David. I am always amazed at how God’s plan continues
to unfold no matter how hard Satan or man tries to interfere with it. Time and time again, Satan has tried to destroy and eliminate the people of Israel, yet they remain. Time and time again, Satan has tried to stop the salvation of man, yet God continues to win hearts and give salvation to those who are willing to accept it. I serve a God who can not be stopped or defeated. Help me hold onto that as a pillar of my strength and faith.
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. (Amen) (Matthew 6:9-13)
