Heavenly Father, as I continue my prayer series on the disciples, I praise You for John. I praise You for the words he wrote that we have as part of Your word and for his example and testimony. I praise You that the lesson You taught us the most about the disciples is that You can make the normal, ho-hum individual, a dynamic and on fire person to build Your kingdom with the assistance of the Holy Spirit. I can do as Christ preached: “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to my Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. [John 14:12-14] Help me to do greater things because of Your Spirit residing in me as I represent Your living temple.
Holy Spirit, give me the vibrant love for Jesus that John had. Help me to faithfully walk with others and be bold in my faith like John and Peter did when they healed the lame man at the temple gate. [Acts 3:1-10] To stand boldly, be responsible as Christ asked him to take care of his mother, Mary. Help me to be wise, discerning, and courageous that I may withstand any harsh attack the enemy may make against me. Help me to write and teach the faithful as John did when he wrote his letters from imprisonment. Help me to see with the help of the Holy Spirit what I need to see so that I can be faithful to You and to the church.
I thank my God always concerning the grace of God which was given to me by Christ Jesus, that I am enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge, even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in me, so that I come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will also confirm me to the end, that I may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom I am called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. [1Corinthians 1:4-9]
