Our Foundation to Follow Christ

Being Like James [the Elder or the Great]

Heavenly Father as I continue to examine the testimonies of Your disciples that walked with Christ I praise You for their example and the work they did that would set the foundation to the church that we now know. I praise You for teaching me about each one so that I can learn and become more complete in my service to You.

Holy Spirit as I learn and examine the life of James that was recorded in Your word I desire to be as firm in the face of persecution as he was. Help me to support others ministries as James did of Paul’s missionary work. [Galatians 2:9] Help me to be eager to serve and desire to be Your faithful servant but not to the point of asking to be at Your right hand in heaven. Let me be worthy to stand for my faith even if it costs me my life like James which was recorded in Acts 12:2. Help me to be a pillar in my church that holds up the faith of others, teaches, leads by wisdom and how I live. Help me to be able to witness wonders and miracles as James did when he witnessed Jesus’ Transfiguration, Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane, the Ascension of Christ into heaven and being a part of the faithful that was present at the day of Pentecost. Let me be faithful to support my pastor, our church elders, our Youth and children ministers and worship leader. Help me to be faithful to the learning at Bible studies and guide me to be an encourager to the congregation.

But, beloved, remember the words that were previously spoken by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. They said to you, “In the last days there will be scoffers who will walk after their own ungodly desires.” These are the men who cause divisions, sensual, devoid of the Spirit. But you, beloved, build yourselves up in your most holy faith. Pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in the love of God while you are waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, which leads to eternal life. On some have compassion, using discernment. And others save with fear while pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment stained by the flesh. Now to Him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you blameless before the presence of His glory with rejoicing, to the only wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen. Jude 17-24 (MEV)
