When I am Empty

I lift my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you—the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. [Psalm 121]

Holy Spirit, I seek to find my hope and faith again. I have been trusting Your word since I was 16, yet right now it brings me little comfort. I feel the world I knew no longer exists, and the things and people I counted on are no longer real to me. A few kind-hearted souls who have known me for a long time occasionally check in, but what do I say? I no longer know peace; I have lost my joy and my one safe haven is no longer such. My job has turned me cynical and now my world outside of work has done the same. My faith

in people is strained at best. To just be done is the easiest way out but I have never taken the easiest path. I will put my head down and continue to do the one thing I know take a step at a time. I seek to know you as I once did and feel life has hope but that candle is flickering within me.

O Lord, God of my salvation, I cry out day and night before You. Let my prayer come before You; incline Your ear to my cry. For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draws near to Sheol. I am counted with those who go down to the grave; I am counted with those who go down to the grave; I am a man who has no strength, like one who is set free among the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, like those whom You remember no more, for they are cut off from Your hand. You have laid me in the depths of the pit, in dark and deep regions. Your wrath lies heavy upon me, and You have afflicted me with all Your waves. Selah. You have caused my companions to be far from me; You have made me an abomination to them ; I am shut up, and I cannot escape; my eye is dim from my affliction. Lord, I call daily upon You, and I have stretched out my hands to You.

Will You show wonders to the dead? Shall the dead rise up to praise You? Selah. Shall Your lovingkindness be declared in the grave, or your faithfulness in Abaddon? Shall Your wonders be known in the darkness or Your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? But unto You have I cried, O Lord, and in the morning my prayer comes before You. O lord, why do You cast away my soul? Why do You hide Your face from me? I am afflicted and close to death since my youth; while I suffer Your terrors I am helpless. Your fierce wrath sweeps over me; Your terrors destroy me. They come around me daily like a flood; they encircle me together. You have caused to be far from me my lovers and friends, and my companion is darkness. I sympathize with the Psalmist in these words. Amen. [ Psalm 88]
