Praying Your Word

Heavenly Father I praise You for Your Word, what we call the Bible.  I praise You for the ability to pray at any time and know You are near. I praise You for being my King and for Your desire to have a personal relationship with me.  I praise You for Your Holy Spirit who not only comforts me but brings me messages from You, prompts me when to act and when to speak.

Holy Spirit help me to remember that Your word is alive and active.  It is sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of my heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from Your sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before Your eyes to whom I must one day give an account. (Hebrews 4:12&13)  We are told by You through Isaiah, all words that go out of Your mouth will not return to You empty, but accomplish the purposes for which You spoke them into existence. (Isa. 55:11)  Help me to pray with Your words in my mouth and in my heart. For I know as Job declared, “What You decide on will be done, and light will shine on Your ways.” (Job 22:28)  I also know that Jesus said, “but the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart. (Matt. 15:18) A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” (Luke 6:45) Help me to store only good things in my heart and to treasure only that which is of Your heart.

Holy Spirit help me to continually learn from the wisdom of Solomon when he wrote in Proverbs 13:3 & 21:23 If you guard your lips you will preserve your life, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin. If I guard my mouth and my tongue I will keep myself from calamity.  Help me to be like David, a man after Your own heart when he said, “Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips.” (Psa. 141:3)  I also pray, may these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. (Psa. 19:14)

Holy Spirit remind me daily as Paul reminded Timothy, all scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that I, a servant of God, may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2Tim. 3:16-17)  Help me as I become a living sacrifice that I will learn, understand, meditate, and pray Your words day and night so that I am fully filled with Your Spirit and can face any and all trials each day in my life.  Help me to not only listen to Your words but respond to them by living a life of acting out Your love to all people who You created in Your image and desire a relationship with and for them to accept Your gift of salvation.

Now may You direct my heart into Your love and into the patience of Christ Jesus, my savior, Amen. (2 Thess. 3:5)
