Praying over Small Children As a Father or Mother

Heavenly Father I praise You today for entrusting to me a child who I dearly love. I am blessed to have been chosen to have this responsibility for such a short period of life. I praise You making a little of my purpose clear.

Holy Spirit I come before You, humbled that I have been given a child or children to rear that are so young and needy. I pray today for their safety since I can not witness every movement and choice they make. I pray that the words I speak around them will be encouraging, and consistent and help their development. Help me to begin to open their minds to who You are and how much You love them. Help me to demonstrate this love and grace daily. Help me to be able to keep frustrations, irritations, and bad days from affecting them as they grow. Teach me how to demonstrate grace, wisdom, and understanding. Let me be discerning enough to know when they need help and when to let them learn. Help me to understand when they are sick or helpless that I am to stand for them and take care of them.

Let the language I use, the attitude I show, be worthy of You since Christ was clear when he said suffer the little children to me. Let me never take for granted this short phase of life as I watch them grow, learn, and become independent. Guide me each day in how I can draw them closer to understanding who You are. I pray a double blessing of wisdom over them as Daniel, Esther, Nehemiah, and Paul demonstrated. I pray for a double blessing of initiative to grow and be more than expected like Joseph, David, Peter, John, and Debrah. I pray for them to begin to learn boldness and a keen spirit like Joshua and Caleb, Debrah and Esther, Daniel, David, Timothy, and Paul. Help me to teach them to be industrious and learn like Paul, and Lydia. Most of all help me to teach them to listen to You, Holy Spirit so that they can learn wisdom directly from God.

I thank my God always concerning the grace of God which was given to me by Christ Jesus, that I am enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge, even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in me, so that I come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will also confirm me to the end, that I may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom I am called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. [1Corinthians 1:4-9]
