Heavenly Father, I praise You for sending us the Holy Spirit to comfort us when we are hurting. I praise You for teaching me each day to live and accept the loss I have endured in life and still have my hope and faith. I praise You for understanding that there is an eternity awaiting us, and that I have the gift of Your salvation.
Holy Spirit, I grieve today for my Cousin, who has lost her only daughter, and the husband who has lost his wife, to a sudden death. I understand the pain of losing an adult child unexpectedly. I understand the grief all too well. I am not the best at being compassionate to others, but I can grieve with them for I know this pain well. I ask for Your Spirit to draw close to this whole family and walk with them through this time, and let them know they are loved, supported, and that life here on the earth needs to continue even though it seems we want to quit. Guide their thoughts and help them count the blessings of the life of Brennan that they shared. Give them people to lean on, to cry on, and to remind them of the hope of eternity with You.
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Holy Spirit, help us to bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances we may have against one another. Teach us to forgive as the Lord forgave us. And over all these virtues, help us to put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts, since as members of one body we are called to peace. Let us be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in us richly as we teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in our hearts to God. And whatever we do, whether in word or deed, help us to do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Amen. Colossians 3:12-17
