Being Poor in Spirit

(The Beatitudes)

Heavenly Father I praise You for being our Creator. I praise You for when man screwed this world up by sinning You were already preparing for a way of escape for us. I praise Jesus Christ for coming to this earth living among us and experiencing life as we do. I praise Jesus for being without sin so that he could bear our sins on the cross as the perfect lamb sacrifice so there would be no need any more for sacrifices. I praise Jesus for His resurrection which defeated death offered us salvation, grace, mercy and hope. I praise Jesus for His ascension into heaven so that he could sit at the right hand of the Father with all things under His feet. I praise the Holy Spirit for coming and being the direct messenger from Christ to us and to be our helper here on the earth as we attempt to live a righteous life.

Holy Spirit help me to learn from Christ’s teachings. Jesus said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Help me to humble myself and empty out of my ambitions, sinfulness and personal desires. Holy Spirit fill me up with the principles, desires, and godliness of Christ. Help me to remember God is great and I am not. Help me to go from thinking the world revolves around me and not only know but demonstrate that I revolve around Christ. Holy Spirit help me to see from Christ’s point of view so that I can start to have Godly wisdom instead of human wisdom that is limited to only what we can see. [Matthew 5]

Holy Spirit help me to walk in the principles and statutes of God demonstrating the love of Christ to all I encounter. Help me to die out to myself daily and to live fully for Christ. Help me to live so focused on doing God’s will that I do not leave room for temptation and uncontrollable thoughts. Help me to realize that all power, all success, all I accomplish is because of God who lives within me. I am but a worm as David once said in Psalms.

Holy Spirit I appreciate it when You remind me that the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. As in the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek. And I desire to show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end. I am confident in things that accompany my salvation. For God is not unjust to forget my work and labor of love which I have shown toward His name, in that I have ministered to the saints, and do minister. And I desire to show diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that I do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. [Hebrews 4:12-13; Hebrews 4:16; Hebrews 5:7-10; Hebrews 6:11; Hebrews 6:9-12]

Let me grow as a tree planted by the river drinking in all the wisdom that will sustain me and then I can stand strong during the storms of life and bear good fruit to help others find Jesus. In all things glorify the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
