Understanding Forgiveness

Heavenly Father I praise You today for loving me even when I was very unlovable. I praise You for the price that was paid for our opportunity to get salvation and move back toward what You intended when You made Adam and Eve. I praise You for being made with purpose and intentionality.

Holy Spirit Your word says: “A person’s insight gives him patience and his virtue is to overlook an offense.” “Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, ‘Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?’ Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.’” [Proverb 19:11; Matthew 18:21&22] Help me to understand that I need to forgive as You have forgiven so nothing gets between You and me. Help me to not be concerned with what others do to me, but focus on what I need to be doing and what You are doing in my life. Help me to learn discernment and wisdom. Let my heart demonstrate patience, love, compassion, and understanding.

Help me to realize the two real enemies I face in life are my sinful nature and the devil. This is why, I need to be a living sacrifice daily and constantly renew my mind. I need to put all my focus on following and serving Jesus with the help of the Holy Spirit. I need to live a life that follows what Your word says: Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. [Colossians 3:12-17]

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Amen (Matthew 6:9-13)
