Time to be Quiet and Listen

Heavenly Father, I give You honor, glory, and praise today. You alone are worthy of any and all praise that I or we could bestow on You. From the moment You created time, the universe, our world, and all that is on it, in it, and living or nonliving, You created it all. I give praise for my salvation and for the mercy and grace You have shown to me and expect from me. Help me today to take command of my day so that I can shake all the evil from it, take captive all my thoughts, and breathe deeply Your Spirit within me.

Holy Spirit, I usually lead with scripture so that I can be like the watchers on the wall of David’s time, claiming and reminding You of promises made. Today, I come into Your throne room and want to take time to just listen and talk. I bring to You my family and desire for all of them to know salvation. I desire to see my grandchildren grow to be healthy, learned, and functioning adults who love You and can survive in this sinful world. I want to give praise for the journey I have traveled on, the people who have touched my life, the places I have been, the nature I have seen, and the

preciousness of life I have been allowed to hold in my hand as my children were born and my grandchildren were born. I thank You for the memories of reading the Bible to my grandma, playing harmonica with my uncles, and now with my church worship team. For the ability to sing, to write, grow, to learn, to read, and to know. I praise You for walking me through hard times like cancer, blood clots, being septic, and finding my son dead, but I also praise You for the good times, too. From my first kiss that I received at camp when I was 12, to the girl I would eventually marry and share life with. For seeing the Appalachian and Rocky Mountains. For seeing the ocean while in Florida, seeing Mt. Rushmore and Devil’s Tower, and, of course, getting to enjoy the lakes of Michigan. I have been lucky enough to play sports with teammates and to coach. I have been on prayer teams and seen You move in mighty ways. Today, I just want to say thank You and now just listen for You to speak to my heart. You know my thoughts, I seek Your voice and thoughts on what I need to do as I continue to walk the path of my journey. Help me to give praise and to truly have a thankful heart. I will now be silent and let You speak to my heart and drink deeply of Your living water. In the name of my savior Jesus, Amen.
