Praying for Your Child or Children

Heavenly Father I praise You for the opportunity to be a parent. I praise You that You trust me enough to rear a child or children to learn who You are. I praise You that I am not alone in this endeavor, I have Your Holy Spirit to guide me and provide me with wisdom. I know that I will be tested as this child grows. Help me to live a life that reflects You. Help me to discipline not in anger but for correction and to lead to wise choices. Help me pay attention and listen but understand that I am a parent, not their friend.

Holy Spirit I seek for You to instill in [Name of Child] the wisdom that You gave Daniel. I pray that You will give [child] courage like Joshua, and a unique spirit like Caleb. I pray for a double portion of Peter’s Spirit to serve You with all his life. I pray that my child learns to step out of the boat. I pray that my child learns to forgive like Steven. To worship through hard times like Paul and Silas.

Holy Spirit help me to teach my child how to pray and talk to You. Help me teach Your word so that he can know Who You are. Help me to demonstrate humility and boldness at the same time. Help me to give instruction on how to live in this world but not a part of it. Help me to teach him understanding, knowledge, discernment, and most of all how to love. Help me to live in front of him how I believe and trust in You. Let me not hide failures for they make us strong. Let me show good works so that he can see my faith in action.

Holy Spirit put a hedge around my child and protect him from evil and harm. Help me to show him the world is broken, and sin runs rampant but that is not the whole story. Let me show that You still listen, care, and love us. Holy Spirit help me to learn and teach and live Romans 12.

Holy Spirit help me to head these words: “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in His love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. You did not choose me; I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. However, when He, the Spirit of Truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

Let this be true in my life and let me abide fully in Your presence. Help me to be a better helpmate, a better father, and a grandfather. Let me be a true friend to those who call me a friend. Help me to do my work as I work for You and not focus on others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
