Praying Earnestly

I give thanks to You, O God, I give thanks! For Your wondrous works declare that Your name is near. Praise the Lord! Praise God in His Sanctuary; praise Him in His mighty heaven! Praise Him for His mighty works; praise His unequaled greatness! Praise Him with a blast of the ram’s horn; praise Him with the lyre and harp! Praise Him with the tambourine and dancing; praise Him with strings and flutes! Praise Him with a clash of cymbals; praise Him with loud clanging cymbals. Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord! Praise the Lord! [Psalm 75:1; Psalm 150, NLT]  

Holy Spirit Your word says: Make this your common practice: Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you can live together whole and healed. The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with. Elijah, for instance, a human just like us, prayed hard that it wouldn’t rain, and it didn’t—not a drop for three and a half years. Then he prayed that it would rain, and it did. The showers came and everything started growing again. [James 5:16-18, The Message] Help me to follow the example of Christ daily and take time to pray, pray with my whole heart and with the honesty that keeps our relationship open. Help me to pray so that true change can occur. Help me to come into the throne room daily, and lay not only petitions at Your feet but to present all of myself as a living sacrifice so that I can be like David and be a man after Your own heart. Help me to pray and align myself with Your will and to be like Abraham and be an intercessor that has Your ear. Let me pray like all the heroes of the faith in the past 200 years who have seen great things happen because of prayer. Let me be like the 700 who prayed in the basement of Spurgeon’s church. Help me to be the man who went ahead to pray for revival before Finney would preach. Help me to be like the orphanage in England that saw their leader pray heaven to earth so that children could be fed, clothed, and housed. Help me to be like the man who prayed over Whales while World War 2 raged on. Let my simple faith be strong enough to not only believe in what I am praying but that it will be honorable enough to You that my prayer will make a difference in Your kingdom.  

For this reason, I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches, he may strengthen me with power through His Spirit in my inner being, so that Christ may dwell in my heart through faith. And I pray that I, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that I may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all I ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within me, to Him be glory, Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever!
