Meeting Us at Our Worst

O sing unto the Lord a new song; sing unto the Lord, all the earth! Sing unto the Lord, bless His name; declare His salvation from day to day. Proclaim His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples. For the Lord is great, and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are worthless, but the Lord made the heavens. Honor and majesty are before Him; strength and beauty are in His sanctuary. Give unto the Lord the glory due His name; bring an offering, and come into His Courts. Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness; tremble before Him, all the earth. Say among the nations. “The Lord reigns! Indeed, the world is established, it shall not be moved; He shall judge the peoples righteously.” Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field be joyful, and all that is in it, then all the trees of the forests shall rejoice before the Lord, for He comes, for He comes to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with righteousness and the people with His faithfulness. [Psalm 96]

Holy Spirit, I am thankful for the wisdom of Your word. I see through the testimonies and accounts written by men inspired by You that God is a God who comes to meet us, even when we are at our lowest point in life. Take, for example, Christ met the man in the cemetery who was out of his mind. He stood before a crowd who wanted to stone a woman caught in adultery, but stopped them when He demonstrated mercy and grace. He healed many who were not of the people of Israel. He even healed a servant of a Roman Soldier who was part of an occupying army in the country he walked. Look at the mercies bestowed on Rahab the prostitute, Ruth the foreigner, who would both become part of the lineage that would lead to Christ. Your word says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. You love humility and hate pride. For all of us have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement,

through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished—he did it to demonstrate his justice at present, to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. [Romans 3:23-26] Help me to never forget and to always give praise for the fact that You love me when I was a sinner, when I was rebellious, when I failed, and now that I am redeemed. Help me to know I serve a God who is more concerned about my heart than my failures. Teach me this day the wisdom I need to grow in my faith, to love unconditionally, to stand on God's principles, and to live life to the fullest of His intentions, so I may be filled and at peace while the world decays and remains in constant chaos.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Amen. [Romans 15:13]
